The University of Hertfordshire is one of only three UK post-92 institutions ranked in the world's top 400 universities.
The University of Hertfordshire is located in Hatfield, just 20 minutes from London’s Kings Cross station and within easy access of the A1(M).Luton and Stansted airport are just 40 minutes away.
The Geography and Environmental Sciences department in the university has scored very highly in the most recent independent Teaching Quality Assessment. More specifically, our teaching gained the highest rating in all three areas: teaching quality, student progression and learning resources.
The department has strong local, national, and international links with practicing planners and environmental professionals, which means that our courses benefit from various visiting speakers, joint projects and field visits.
Our staff are active in research across a range of areas including: sustainability and the built environment, travel planning, planning for climate change, water resources, public engagement and behaviour change. Most of our research is focused on practical applications that address current concerns of environmental practitioners.
Professional Accreditation
Our Environmental Management Master’s degrees are accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). Three of our modules are accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) for Associate Membership.
The MSc in Sustainable Planning and Environmental Management also includes modules accredited by IEMA and we are in the process of applying for RTPI accreditation for the Sustainable Planning Master’s degrees.
