Green Business Awards 2011 opens for entries
We are pleased to announce that the Green Business Awards 2011, supported by ENDS, officially go live today. The RSA-accredited scheme is open to entries until 16 June. This year’s cycle will culminate in a glittering awards ceremony in central London on 1 November.
Now in its fifth year, the Green Business Awards is being relaunched with high expectations following its strongest performance yet in 2010. Winners were announced last November in 13 categories. The judging panel noted an across-the-board increase in the calibre of entries.
Also known as the “Green Globes”, the Green Business Awards aim to identify the most ambitious, innovative and effective initiatives in pursuit of sustainability and a greener economy.
This year, there are several new categories. These include awards for best green initiatives by government, consultancy and carbon market organisations, reflecting the important role all main constituents of UK plc have to play.
A new award for best carbon offset project will aim to identify an outstanding example of ‘charismatic’ carbon reduction. There will be two grand prix: Green business of the year for the best overall environmental/sustainability performance; and a new category of environmental manager or team of the year, because real progress comes down to outstanding work by individuals.
We are also pleased to welcome a new chairman of the independent judging panel: Dr Martin Blake. Martin is widely known for his pioneering work on carbon reduction and other initiatives as head of sustainability at Royal Mail. He is now variously chairman, non-executive director, advisor and mentor for sustainability projects across the globe.
