Changing Vegetation Map of Halla Mountain, the highest mountain in South Korea

graphic of mountain vegetation dying

Due to the rise in temperature caused by climate change, Korean fir (Abies koreana), endemic plant species of Halla Mountain in Jeju Island, are withering away in groups. Experts say, if the temperature continues to rise by 2100, many rare native plants could disappear, completely changing the landscape of the vegetation map of Halla Mountain.

Concerns rise over natural disasters caused by climate change in Europe

According to a recent report by European Environment Agency, the temperature in Europe and the northern hemisphere is increasing at a faster rate than the world average and if the climate change continues to accelerate, various forms of natural disasters, such as, drought, flood and storms will hit Europe. Furthermore, the report also stated that the land temperature of Europe has increased by 1.5°C compared to the pre-Industrialization period in the past 10 years.

Technology for catalytic decomposition of nitrogen dioxide (N2O), a major greenhouse gas (GHG)

infographic

Environmental R&D technology to prepare for climate change (1)

Technical Overview

  • Manufacturing a catalyst prototype that can decompose N2O and designing an optimal package for a decomposition technology in order to commercialize the technology for N2O catalytic decomposition of an industrial exhaust gas.

Strengths compared to the existing technologies

  • Production of a MMO (Methane monooxygenase) catalyst and coating mixture that can effectively decompose N2O on a broad scale, from a low temperature zone of -200°C to a high temperature zone.
  • Able to decompose N2O in the boiler exhaust fumes of 300°C by 96%
