The Ministry of Environment of Korea recommends schools to close when a fine dust warning is issued

It has been reported that an average concentration of PM 2.5 ultrafine particles in Korea is 29.1µg/m2, which is twice the figure of OECD average of 14.05µg/m2 and three times the standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO), which is 10µg/m2. The Ministry of Environment of Korea has set the reduction in particulate matters as the top priority for 2017 and has prepared strong measures to address the problem, such as recommending schools to close when a fine dust warning is issued.

About 470,000 premature deaths per year occur in Europe due to air pollution and particulate matters

Last year, the European Environment Agency (EEA) announced that about 470,000 Europeans die of premature deaths per year due to air pollution. Furthermore, the EEA also stated that 85% of the European urban population was exposed to particulate matters (PM 2.5) at a level that is harmful to health in 2014. Moreover, it added that air pollution is the main cause behind premature deaths in Europe.
